Over a Decade of Dedication to Wildlife & Habitat Management

Hello, my name is Chancey Lewis, Owner of Native Texas Wildlife Service, LLC. It is great to meet you!

Native Texas Wildlife was a vision I had that sparked from my passion in wildlife and the outdoors; particularly native range and bottomland hardwood restoration and management. As a child, I grew up trapping, hunting, and fishing the streams, bottomlands, and crop fields of the Blackland Prairie region of Milam County. This passion, driven by a love of the outdoors started at a very early age and drove me to pursue a degree in Wildlife Biology. During college and after graduating, I pursued jobs working on various ranches in Bandera, South Texas, and Southeast Iowa. I loved native Texas game animals particularly white-tailed deer, bobwhite quail, wild turkey, fox squirrels, and wood ducks. I wanted to learn as much about them as possible and my strong background and foundation from various mentors and professors in my industry really opened my eyes to the bigger system…….The ecosystem.

Growing up in farm country, I knew that healthy soil was always the foundation to build on and the place to start.  Being so passionate about white-tailed deer, I also knew that there was no way I could manage an animal unless I knew what it was eating.  Eager to learn, I would go through the rumens of deer and try to identify every plant part I found.  I was also fortunate to work on ranches that encouraged self-education and watching and observing animals for long hours.   I was really honing my plant ID skills at this time, and find it funny now that a lot of my wildlife colleagues consider me a “plant guy.”

Since those days, I have had the privilege and blessing to have worked under and learned from many brilliant individuals within the industry spanning across private ranches, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas AgriLife Extension, Texas Land Conservancy, and Mitigation Resources of North America.

Having worked with two state agencies developing wildlife management plans (WMPs) for private landowners, I saw a real need for a service that could provide not only wildlife management recommendations; but also ‘boots on the ground’ application of those activities. I specialize in site specific WMPs for your property, native grass seeding and restoration, food plot planting, and basic wildlife management activities suited to your particular property.  I take a lot of pride in not only developing wildlife management plans for private landowners, but also helping them implement the activities within the plan.

My wife, Janet, and I continue to call Milam County our home and we have four wonderful kids. In my spare time, I can be found enjoying my family, or in the outdoors kayaking, fishing, hunting, or collecting and planting native seeds.
